KHNC gives top priority to nuke safeguards, advanced operation technologies of nuke plants

The Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Co. has a lot of work to be carried out this year, such as the construction of nuclear waste storage facilities as planned, the relocation of its office to Gyeongju, the construction of nuclear power plant, and the continuous operation of nuclear power plants without problems.
First, the company should strive to boost the safety of nuclear power plants to a high-level and maintain it to raise public trust in the nuclear power stations.
Second, the company should have advanced technology for the operation of nuclear power stations to take a root in the country.
Third, the company should also try to boost the acceptance level of nuclear power under a mid-to-long-term policy. Fourth is will make reforms in the area of the company's management and operation.
The safety of nuclear power plants is the foremost management objective of the company and is the foremost responsibility for an operator of nuclear power stations.
KNPC will do every thing within its reach to promote the safety of its nuclear power plants so that public will continue to have trust in its nuclear power facilities this year, too, as it had done in the past.
The company will develop directives for the major accident management related to light-water type nuke power plants and reevaluate the evaluations of safety of all nuke power stations and build a risk watch system to prevent the nuclear plant accidents.
To prevent nuclear accidents, the capacity for preventive activities to preclude accidents should be carried on continuously by setting up an advanced fire prevention operating system.
The company will build an organizational base for creating a system for the reform of safe operation of nuke power plants. The company will also not only develop a new process for the operation of nuke power plant base, but also build quality guarantee system based on performance results.
KHNC will also invest in R&D activities to boost the trust in the nuke plant facilities and to make the repair of the nuke plant facilities more efficient. It will also strengthen cooperation with related organizations both at home and abroad to enhance the level of its technology for nuke power plants.
The company will also try to boost the management of mid-and-low level nuke waste and standardize to raise the safety management capacity for radiation. Various measures will be promoted to develop a high-tech system.
KNPC will also participate in the government's 3rd comprehensive nuclear power development plan and the plan for the development of nuke power technology and upgrade its own technology through the build-up of a network for its own nuke technology advisory group linked with industry, academics, and research.
The company will enhance its nuke power plant construction competitiveness through new technology and new construction methods to shorten to build a nuke power plant in the future.
It was projected to take 53 months to build Nos. 1&2 Shinwolsong nuke power plants, but it would be designed to take 47 months to build a new nuke power plant in the future. The construction period for Nos. 1&2 new Ulchin nuke power plants will be shortened to 46 months from 56 months as originally planned.
KHNC will spur the reform of processes of nuke power plant operations across the board and business practices in order to introduce advanced operation technologies and develop the sustainable nuke power plant operation system. The company plans to develop advanced nuke power plant operation technologies in 26 areas, including engineering processes and function enhancement programs in 14 areas and operation base process in 12 areas.
In order to carry out these planned projects, it will continuously operate the nuke power plant management reform committee on a permanent basis including the development of the committee's processes and develop it further. nw
