700 people in science and technology field attend a New Year greeting session
The Korea Federation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST) organized a New Year's greeting session at Korea Science and Technology Hall on Jan. 5 with about 700 people form several walks of life, including government, parliament, science and technology circles participating.
Prime Minister Han Myeong-sook praised those in the science and technology field for their painstaking efforts toward the development of science and technology, and she called for them to spearhead initiatives to turn around the economy of the general public and ensure public integration.
She said Korea's breath-taking exports worth $300 billion was owed to the development of science and technology and she called for 5 million people in the science and technology field to take the initiative in exploring next-generation growth engines with the goal of raising the per capital national income to $30,000.
The prime minister said the government will channel 9.7 trillion won in the development of science and technology and it will spare no efforts to nurture creative people in the science and technology field.
The session, launched by a speech by KOFST President Chae Young-bok, featured a video message titled, "Opening Renaisance of Science and Technology", followed by ceremonies for awarding the 7th Korea Engineering Prize and 10th Young Scientists Prize. Deputy Prime Minister-Minister of Science and Technology Kim Woo-sik and ex-MOST Minister Kwon E-hyuck proposed a toast, and a brief exhibition session was held on the explanation of the selection of Korean-born would-be astronauts. nw
On hand at the New Year's greeting session for those in the science and technology circles are Prime Minister Han Myeong-sook, DPM-MOST Minister Kim Woo-sik, KOFST President Chae Young-bok, ex-MOST Minister Kwon E-hyucks and astronaut Koh San.
