LS Industrial Systems Co. won the Korea Quality Management Grand Award at the 32nd National Quality Management Convention held at Coex Auditorium Nov. 24 in Seoul.
The company, with its total turnover this year projected at 1.2 trillion won, received an excellent mark for its quality management as a result of its promotion of quality management under the ideal, "an enterprise together with its customers,"since the launch of its operation as part of its grand design to be a top leader in the areas of electric equipment and automation in the world.
In the meantime, President Kim Jung-man has been promoted to Vice Chairman, while Vice President Koo Ja-kyun was promoted to President in a top-level personnel reshuffle made on Dec.12, the company announced. President Koo is the third son of former LG Caltex President Koo Pyong-hoe and currently honorary chairman of E1 Co.
Vice Chairman Kim Jung-man said he felt an immense pride for winning the prestigious and honorable award.
The CEO said with the management philosophy of becoming a company that is together with its customers, LS Industrial Systems is conducting all its management activities, based on the global standard process of quality and environment, safety, and health management systems. These efforts have enabled us not only to reap the Production Innovation Prize, the National Environmental Management Prize, the Industrial Standard Prize, the Global Standard System Grand Prize and other prizes, but also to secure the capabilities that will enable us to squarely emulate advanced corporations in the global market. Through the occasion of winning the Korea Quality Grand Prize, LS Industrial Systems is set to further spur its pursuits for achieving immaculate quality through great innovation of its thinking and behavior. Furthermore, the occasion has provided a fresh impetus for us to structure an evaluation system aimed at examining our management quality levels every year, attain a sold quality of managerial achievement,
and accelerate our innovation activities. LS Industrial Systems will not become complacent with the award, and I committed to continuing its efforts to innovate quality and providing the best quality to customers, thereby playing a role as the best quality provider.
The company, in the meantime, said it has signed Dec. 1 an RFID technology alliance deal with the U.S. firm Impinj at its Yonsei Building headquarters in the presence of President Kim Chung-man and Impinj President William Colleran. LSIS agreed with Impinj to exclusively receive the transfer technologies in readers and differentiated antennas in the Korean market. Ls plans to use the technologies obtained through the alliance and develop and mass-produce differentiated readers and antennas starting early next year.
Jung Ju-hwan, director of LS RFID business division, explained the background to the technology alliance. "To further expand the RFID business, it is crucial to secure RFID systems which enable multi-modal bionetics and which are not influenced by the surrounding circumstances, in particular, among the various customer requirements. We are confident that by releasing Impinj's products onto the market we can resolve these problems 100 percent."He went on to add,"This alliance will enable us to embody diverse business models which we have been unable to achieve due to the limitations of the related Korean technologies, despite our customers"requirements. Starting early next year, we will begin by releasing the products available in the areas of logistics and distribution in particular."Next year, LS looks set to focus on research to further deepen its current technologies in order to ensure the accuracy and reliability of RFID systems, as well as to conduct research aimed at diversifying and integrating its limited products.
Meanwhile, at its Cheonan plant, LS has structured a full range of RFID production infrastructure such as RFID reader production lines, a quality test center, and RFID tag production lines, the first of their kind in Korea, and is conducting the government's model projects and expanded businesses, as well as other diverse private projects.
Impinj Inc. is located in Seattle, USA, and is engaged in RFID-related research and product development. Since 2000 the company has developed and sold RFID tag chips, and specialized in semiconductors. The company, the leader of the world's RFID technology, boasts the world's prime technologies in multi-modal biometrics which limit the influence of the surrounding environment, a major hindrance to the expansion of the RFID business. nw
