Korea Society presents Van Fleet Award to Chairman Lee for contribution to Korea-U.S. relations

Chairman Lee Kun-hee of Samsung Group won the Van Fleet Award from the Korea Society in New York on Sept. 17 for his outstanding contribution to the growth of the Korea-U.S. relations. The society gives the annual award to a person or persons who made a great contribution to understanding and cooperation in the Korea-U.S. relations.
The Samsung chairman left for New York on Sept. 16 accompanied by a slew of key Samsung officials including Yun Jong-yon, vice chairman of Samsung Electronics, President Choi Jee-sung, President Lee Ki-tae, Samsung Electronics Telecommunication Division, and President Hwang Chang-kyu of Samsung Electronics Semiconductor Division. He has presided over a meeting of Samsung executives at the semiconductor plant in Austin, Texas to discuss latest trends in the IT industry.
Present at the award ceremony were Mrs. Hong Ra-hee, wife of the Samsung chairman, Samsung Electronics Director Lee Jae-yong, the son of the chairman, Lee Bu-jin, director of Hotel Shilla and Lee Seo-hyun, director of Cheil Industry, family members and close relatives of the Samsung chairman.
Chairman Lee is expected to stay in the U.S. for several months on this trip to map out management strategies as well as have a medical checkup. nw
