The 13th Gas Safety Rally boosts awareness for gas safety to prevent accidents


The 13th Gas Safety Rally took place June 23 at the Grand Ballroom of Inter-Continental Hotel in downtown Seoul hosted by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy and the Korea Gas Safety Corp., with some 500 people including those from the gas industry, consumer groups and other related organizations attending.
Dignitaries attending the annual event included First Vice MOCIE Minister Kim Jong-kap, President Park Dal-young of the Korea Gas Safety Corp., President Song In-hoe of the Korea Electrical Safety Corp., Chairman Lee Yun-ja of the Korea Housewives Class Central Association, and Chairman Kim Chon-ju of the Korea Housewives Club Federation, and others related to gas safety.
At the event, the government and the gas industry issued their declarations to renew their determinations to work for gas safety, read the resolution for gas safety, the presentation of model cases of gas safety management, and the exhibition of photos on gas safety, in addition to an international seminar on gas safety.
During the ceremony, awards, medals, citations and letters including citations of the President and Prime Minister were presented to those who have contributed to gas safety around the country in the past year.
President Kim Se-kwang of the SK Gas Co. received the Order of Industrial Merit, Bronze Tower medal from the government for his contribution to the safety of gas and the progress of the gas industry. Chang Seok-wook, technology director of the Korea Gas Safety Corp. won the Order of the Industrial Merit, the Iron Tower medal from the government for his role in boosting the awareness for gas safety by developing various ideas for safety of gas since his employment with the gas safety corp. in 1975 and his contribution to safety of gas in setting up the gas safety national rally leading to the establishment of the build-up of the gas safety management base. President Kim Kyu-won of the Kuitturami Boiler Co. won the Presidential citation for his role in the development of gas leak sensor's internal controller to enhance the safety of the heat exchange equipment and its effectiveness and his company's wide research on the safety of gas thereby preventing gas related accidents. His company's boilers have been exported to many countries due to the improved quality.
President Chung Yon-wook of the Kyungnam Energy Co. received the Industrial Citation for his part in boosting the awareness for gas safety for the company's employees and introducing the advanced gas safety management system by developing new technologies, safety related high-tech equipment. He also was cited for his contribution to the company's ethical management and customer satisfaction programs and introduced the quality management system so that the company could supply a superb-quality gas.
Following the event, side events such as an art performance, and reception were held to make the annual event one that has contributed to the unity and participation of all people.
The first MOCIE vice minister, in his speech at the event, congratulated the medal and citation winners for their hard work and meritorious services. He pledged that the government will go a long way to ensure that gas safety is well managed across the country for a happy and safe life for all the people in the country.
The government will also do all it can to be able to supply enough gas by securing gas suppliers in and out of the country including its engagement in gas exploration both at home and abroad.
He said safety is not given for free. You can get as much as your investment, he stressed. He pledged that the government will try to implement policies as much as its capacity allows so that people would live without gas accidents and enjoy a happy and safe lives. nw
