Like Paper Boats on Water

Artist Lee tries to express ceaseless flow of communications in images, signals

Born in the age of the start of post-modernism and living in the 21st century experien-cing the floods of the birth and disintegrating image and continue to live amid the changes.
Perhaps, in the age of digitalism, the images were born and destroyed as if it is the natural process of the existence of images. From the last century, the incommunicado in images and signs has become representative problems.
Sorry to say, artworks are in the same situation. They are created and floating, not above that situation. The modern materialistic society has been mobilizing a large amount of capital and means to create images and signs that are communicable to create an immovable value of communication at least for the moment.
This kind of effort is no exception to artists.
As soon as they are created, they set sail for the sea of communication, but I try to be keep myself within the art object as much as I can. All kinds of thoughts go through painter's mind when working fills an empty canvas with images. The connections between self and art objects, analogic self awareness and the realities in the age of digitalism. I put the images created during my answers and questions on numerous issues on an empty canvas like a river. I feel like a child returning home after putting into a stream paper boats to float as I return home after floating a small boat in the river of communication, thinking about my creations floating around on the sea.
Painter Lee is a graduate of Keimyung University Fine Arts College, where she also obtained a graduate school degree in fine arts. She also studied fine art at Mansana Fine Art College in Barcelona. She held five solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions, including Grands et Jeunes (Espace Auteuil, Paris, in 2002. Her work also was displayed at the International Modern Fine Art Exhibition world tour at Sejong Performance Art Center in Seoul. She also participated in the True Friendship Exhibition held in Fukuoka, Japan.
Prizes she won include the Special Selection Award at the National Print Collection held in Daegu in 1993-1995 and Daegu Fine Art Exhibition print section.
As the prizes she won shows, she used to be a print artist, but opted to take on painting, too. She has a knack for colors. One of her mixed material art piece entitled, "Productivity-Arrangement 65.2 x 53 cm; mixed material on white cloth, shows that her selection of color is exquisite; it has a spacious white blank space with a black bottom and on the top corner is a round red ball. The selection of color is nicely balanced each other to give out a striking abstract art object.
Another piece of her work shows the black space on top of the object with red ball in one corner this time. At the bottom is a slender brown color bar with red, black and green colors with the piece entitled, "Productivity-Arrangement,"also. It is also made on a piece of white cloth, 53 X 45.5 cm with mixed material. nw
