SBA to help set up 1,000 women enterprises by 2010 with 10 bln won in funds


Innovative Enterprises run by women would total around 1,000 by 2010,"declared Administrator Lee Hyun-jae of the Small Business Administration recently. Her also predicted that the purchase of business firms run by women by the government and public organizations would double by 2010.
He made the remarks at the 9th Leadership Forum organized by the Korea Women Venture Association at Yusong near Daejeon June 16. He said the number of enterprises run by women would be jumped to 1,000 from the current 340 by forming a base to invigorate the establishment of innovative women enterprises.
SBA Administrator Lee stressed that the change has already been made in the direction of support to women enterprises from the existing men business growth to specialize women businesses and protective policies. He said the policies will be directed to make them technology-oriented and specialized start-ups equipped with competitive edge and grow in stressing the changes in the policies.
The administrator also added that the public sector purchase of women enterprise products will be raised to 5 percent from 2.8 percent this year by 2010. He said the new policies will allow exclusive contracts amounting less than 30 million won in project values or commodity values to women enterprises on priority basis to give them marketing support to boost their competitive strength.
In addition, the SBA will set aside 10 billion won the training of women technology manpower and operate the women business creation fostering center, he said. nw
