Memories of Land Far Away
Painter Do attempts to transpose life in New Zealand into her artistic world
Painter Do Eunhee spent her youth in New Zealand, the land where green grass fields, light and color are abundant. She was attracted to nature of the country very much, which left lasting impression on her. 100 percent pure blue skies, green grass fields without impure material. She said she saw bright colors through clear light. Crystal-clear colors awakened the inner being inside her.
Flowers, trees, buildings, streets and color harmony created by organic and inorganic things itself was beautiful.
Her memories of alleys and shops that she walked past every day have made the tips of her brushes moving on canvases clearer and more transparent. Those experiences unfurled on the canvases. Her old hang-outs and streets are where her daily life has been buried. She built her own buildings in inside those memories and painted them, deciding the mood of heaven freely and molded a harmonious world in her own language.
The story of buildings painted in pastel color tone continues in Korea, too. In the city, dark, hard and rough,
people show their nature by putting on clothes in various colors here and there to be pleasant and learn about colors.
For her, the choice of colors can be taken as a method to show the ideal of freedom. She asks if she was able to open her eyes for selecting colors, in a full understanding of the environment and herself. Inside the color selection are her life and sensitivity to look at her life with a positive perspective.
Her wish to paint messages of hope and joy in her work lets her use colorful paints shown through buildings and alleys, along with her dreams that her work will show her wishes. Those forms represent her winner world and her repeated color selections made her freer. The spot can be Auckland Street or Cheongdam Road in Seoul. I have many memories on those places, but my impressions on them have been the focus. My sensual feeling is fair wherever I go. I place all of my mind on spots and all of them are very precious all the same. nw
