KAL Promotes Cooperation in
Aviation Sectors with Mongolia


Signs an MOU on the development of the Mongolian aviation industry and cooperation in the aviation sector

Korean Air (KAL) has signed an MOU on the development of the Mongolian aviation industry and cooperation in the aviation sector with the Mongolian government and Mongolian Airlines.
The agreement was inked by Lee Jong-hee, KAL president-COO, Dagva, director general of the Mongolian Civil Aviation Authority, and Tsogoo, president of Mongolian Airlines in the presence of Korea Minister of Construction and Transportation Choo Byung-jik and his Mongolian counterpart Tsengel.
According to the agreement, KAL agreed to participate in projects designed to upgrade aviation control facilities of Ulan Bator International Airport. The sole international airport of Mongolia is infamous of frequent flight delays and cancellations due to outdated aviation control facilities and unfavorable geological location.
KAL agreed to actively provide cooperation to Mongolian Airlines by providing assistance on the purchase of aircraft designed to foster the Mongolian aviation industry.

KAL and Mongolian Airlines also decided to promote joint marketing activities aimed at revitalizing the tourism industries of both countries.
KAL Chairman Cho Yang-ho said, "KAL will strengthen ties with Mongolia through the signing of the MOU and raise its international profile as Korea's flag-carrier airline, and it will promote diverse exploration approaches to Mongolia to become one of the biggest foreign companies operating in the country."KAL's ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT. Marking the third year, KAL's efforts to transplant trees in a bid to prevent yellow sand have made the headlines in Mongolia.
KAL is conducing an environmental-friendly, overseas training program to Mongolia under which 100 KAL newly hired employees are dispatched during the five-night and six-day period between May 4 and May 13.
The Korean national flag carrier transplanted 3,000 trees and 4,000 trees in Baganor in 2004 and 2005, respectively. KAL employees plan to transplant 4,000 trees there together with students and residents in the Mongolian area this year. Baganor, about 50 km west of Ulan Bator, once was an beautiful area, but badly needs to be repaired due to over development. nw
