In Search of Pure Nature

Min's traditional Korean-style artwork exude vital abstract images of nature

Master painter Min Kyoung-kap is a representative artist in the arts community in Korea, who has devoted his creative life to creating nature, especially, mountains, for over 40 years to this day.
He felt the need for a new common language and created his own special painting style through diversified experiments during his frequent trips to mountains in search of his own artistic language derived from pure nature.
His work is a traditional Korean-style ink work and he ceaselessly pursued a global common language so that his Korean-style art would sometimes appear like Western-style work,
abstract and yet figurative, to express balance and order and added beauty of pure nature.
His early artistic life was devoted to painting nature, especially, mountains, and passed through the world of harmony with nature and to reach the steps for union with nature by entering into nature. Min's artistic pursuit continued to explore the unknown world where he can master the artistic techniques that no one can imitate due to their uniqueness.
The bright and luxurious nature in original color tones, feel like soft pastel work viewed from afar. On a close look, they appear to be traditional Korean-style work painted on traditional Korean paper using the purely Korean style, but they exude abstract images of nature. His recent work gives up younger and fresher sensitivity.
Artist Min is a graduate of Seoul National University Fine Arts College. He participated in the UNESCO International Fine Arts Exhibition in Paris and about 110 domestic exhibitions. He is the winner of the Korea Culture Art Award and a member of the National Academy of Arts. nw
