WINC hot key support mobile phones enjoy great popularity

The National Internet Development Agency of Korea (President Song Kwan-ho) conducted a survey in cooperation with three mobile phone carriers, SKT, KTF and LGT, on the present status of wireless internet numbers for contents (WINC) hot key support mobile phone.
The survey showed that of 3.8 million subscribers to mobile phone operators, 2.7 million have the hot key support mobile phones, about 71 percent of the total subscribers. The figure is an increase of 9.11 million from January 2005 when the last survey was made, up 21 percent in the year.
The WINC hot key method means that after inputting numbers into the first picture, push (nate, magic, n-ez-1) to access wireless internet contents. The method has been winning the support of many users due to its simple approach method, without having to access certain sites first by just pushing the wireless internet button. For example, anyone who has a WINC hot key support mobile phone can get to the mobile homepage of KBS by just pushing the wireless internet button.
The three mobile phone operators, which have been providing WINC service along with NIDA have been providing support to mobile phone terminals being sold at the present time. SKT has been providing support to WINC hot key mobile phone holders since 2003, KTF since February 2002 and LGT since October 2002, increasing the number of WINC hot key mobile phone holders in a rapid manner. A NIDA official predicted that the number of those phone holders is expected to take up about 80 percent of total phone holders in the second half of this year with the replacement demand for such phones rising fast.
NIDA held the 2nd Internet Governance Symposium to raise public awareness concerning the importance of Internet governance and to discuss desirable directions of an Internet governance system, with a total of 130 participants including Assemblyman You Seung-hee, NIDA President Song Kwan-ho and IAK President Chon Kil-nam.
The symposium took place at Seoul Nunhwa Kyouk Hoekwan in commemoration of Information and Communication Month to discuss the Internet governance overview; current status of Internet governance in Korea; direction of Internet governance improvement in Korea. Also, at the event, a variety of suggestions were made regarding the development of a mature Internet governance system unique to the Korean culture, and the methods for the nation to emerge as a hub country in a future network age.
The symposium served as an opportunity for the participants to review Internet-related issues like address resource management, information divide, information protection, mutual connections, copyright protection, freedom of expression and contents control, to create a consensus on the importance and necessity of Internet governance. The 3rd session discussion concerning desirable directions of Internet governance, brought out a diversity of ideas; Dr. Chon Kil-nam(President of Internet Association of Korea(IAK), suggested the creation of a research agency to promote the development of international information infrastructure; Professor Kang Myung-koo(Press Information Dept., Seoul National University) proposed a plan to organize an Internet governance forum. Meanwhile, Uri Party Assemblyman You made stress on responsibility sharing between the public and private sectors, with a focus on the 'draft of revised act on Internet address resources.'NIDA President Song opened the event, emphasizing "Successful realization of u-Korea requires a collaborative and coordinating mechanism among government, companies, private sector, citizens organizations,"adding "We will continue to make an all-out effort to create various opportunities to 'build Internet governance based on a national consensus.'"The Internet, the network that transcends national borders and time, is recognized as the central media that drives new value and revolutionary culture in all areas including politics, economy, culture, and arts. Today, the world's eyes are on the Internet and countries seek to seize the "future and opportunity"provided by the Internet.
NIDA plays a central role in Internet development of Korea based on Korea's world-class high-speed network infrastructure. The agency established a stable network infrastructure.
