WP CEO Kim emphasizes business innovations and global competitiveness

Kim Jong-shin, president-CEO of Korea Western Power Co., urged his executives and staff members to concentrate on business innovations.
In his New Year's message, CEO Kim said, "Since its inception, WP has conducted management innovation activities. In particular, WP has combined all management innovation activities into the Six Sigma innovation system while expanding the innovation infrastructure."Starting from this year, he said, WP plans to reap outcomes of innovation efforts and share them evenly to the company and employees by making the most of these virtuous cycle regimes.
CEO Kim also said, "WP will focus on securing global competitiveness under the theme of "choice and concentration."Reflection on the year 2005, CEO Kim said, "Even though expectations of the times toward endless changes and innovations of public corporations have been mounting and such management uncertainties as fuel price hikes and tightened environmental regulations and demands have persisted, we have made strenuous efforts to meet our targets with a vision by having all departments adapt the Six Sigma management innovation and build up Balanced Scoreboard (BSC) designed to make a balanced assessment of performances."Thanks to these efforts, he said, WP has been rated high in external assessments as the company obtained the Innovation Phase V certificate for public companies, became the first power company to grab the national quality grand prize and other awards and was given excellent marks in management assessment of power companies for the fourth straight year.
CEO Kim urged his executives and staff members to strive for realizing the Y-Project WP has initiated with the goal of making WP one of the most favored corporations among college students and further becoming the World Best Genco (power company).
To this end, first, he stressed the establishment of a management innovation system on a regular basis. Since its inception, WP has conducted management innovation activities. In particular, WP has combined all management innovation activities into the Six Sigma innovation system while expanding innovation infrastructure.
Starting from this year, he said, WP plans to reap outcomes of innovation efforts and share them evenly to the company and employees by making the most of these virtuous cycle regimes.
Second, CEO Kim said, "WP will focus on securing global competitiveness under the theme of "choice and concentration."He said his company will differentiate others by solidifying its strength and supplementing its weak points after analyzing domestic and foreign excellent companies in a bid to win competition in the mid- and long-term perspective. The company plans to foster elite manpower and secure advanced technologies and stabilize the operation of power facilities while turning to projects designed to expand such growth engine industries as new and renewable energy sources and overseas market exploration.
Third, he said, WP will redouble its concern and efforts to promote its corporate responsibility to society. The company will take a lead in its efforts to ensure co-prosperity with society by sharing love with the underprivileged neighbors, promoting partnerships with SMEs and subcontractors as well as relationships with the regional community. WP plans to make every effort to promote ethical management to the extent that the concerned interest parties can sense differences by transforming various systems into customer-oriented ones and monitoring ethical management practices on a regular basis.
Fourth, WP will beef up its teamwork based on amicable labor-management relationships. CEO Kim called for his staff to strive for the creation of a harmonious corporate culture in which they understand, encourage and give thoughtful consideration to others.
