Papua New Guinea's Double Celebration

Ambassador and Mrs. Kuma Aua of Papua New Guinea hosted a reception at Lotte Hotel on Sep. 9 on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of their Independence Day. This party was also in celebration of the official re-opening of the Resident Embassy of Papua New Guinea, which had been closed since late 1990s due to the budgetary reasons.
This function was more honored by the presence of the visiting Minister of Trade and Industry Paul Tiensten of Papua New Guinea who participated in APEC Finance Ministers Meeting held in Jeju Island. And Deputy Minister of Defense Hwang Kyu-sik participated in this event and gave speech.
Among the guests at the Papua New Guinean party were Ambs. Colin Heseltine and Madame Mary Louise Heseltine of Australia and Amb. Rene Francisco Umana of Honduras, etc. From business circles came many CEOs and other senior executives, including the chairman of Changhae Ethanol Corporation Limited that has signed an MOU with the PNG Government to develop cassava for production of ethanol energy from cassava.
During His Excellencies and extinguished guests at this party were amused at the dance performance by two daughters of the Ambassador, Mr. Aua, who were groomed in their traditional outfits and ornaments to dance to the traditional Papua New Guinea music. And, all of the guests received special gift from the embassy, which is a white shirt with vivid and colorful Papua New Guinean design on it.
