Annual events intended to show corporate social responsibility to new employees
Many business firms hold various events to let their new employees learn about the importance of corporate contribution to society.
Samyang Corp.(Chairman Kim Yoon), which founded the country's first private scholarship foundation, "Yang Yong Society" in 1939, leading the corporate world in social contribution, has been holding voluntary social service activities including "Help Your Poor Neighbor" campaign so that the new employees would know by experience what corporate social contribution means.
Samyang held "Beautiful Store Voluntary Service Activities" and "The Night for New Employees for Helping Your Poor Neighbors"events on Aug.1 at the Beautiful Store East Gate in Shinsol-dong, Seoul, and Samyang's head office in Yonji-dong, Seoul.
The new employees' social service activities took place at the East Gate Beautiful Store from 9 a.m. to 15:30 in the afternoon. The store opened in 2003 with the contribution made by Samyang Corp. and the store sells recycled goods contributed by donors and help the poor neighbors with the funds accumulated from the sale of those contributed goods.
The new employees learned the importance of social service, the sale of those goods, and marketing activities as angels of activities during the six hours they spent in the day
Goods came from the donations made by officers and staff of Samyang, including clothes, small home appliances, and books, among others, about 400 items altogether, along with natural and pollution-free sugar bubble set and 1,150 samples of the company's products, leaflets totaling 1,500 sheets and 1,000 shopping bags, all donated free of charge.
The new employees held ?he Night for New Employees to Help Poor Neighbors?from 6:30 p.m to 9 p.m. at the Yonji-dong Head Office of Samyang. They sold goods donated by officers and staff of Samyang and staged other events such as skits including dance performances, scenes from the musical Cats and Singing, among others. The event was also a place of meeting for the new employees to exchange greetings with their senior employees and officers for their harmonious future together working for Samyang.
Chairman Kim also participated in the event, along with some 300 officers and employees of the company. Chairman Kim led the toast for the great success of the company at the event.
Chairman Kim, in a speech at the event, thanked the new employees for their efforts in preparing the event, along with putting in some words for stressing how important it is for a company to make social contributions and social responsibilities. He called on the new employees to do their best to successfully settle down with their jobs for the company and work hard to the best of their abilities.
Chairman Kim and all officers of the company donated gifts to "The Night for New Employees To Help Poor Neighbors" and they bought back those donated items as supporters of the event. They stressed the ideal of late founder Kim Yeon-su that business is social service and Samyang's corporate ideal for its social service activities united together as one.
All the participants liked the event, which was intended to introduce the new employees, help poor neighbors and show the company's unity as one of the educational programs for the new employees. Samyang plans to link the events to social causes in an effort to do its share of social services as part of corporate social responsibility.
The company plans to donate 4.09 million won it earned at the event to poor neighbors.
Samyang has been staging a number of events for its new employees every year including the beautiful store charity bazaar and the night for new employees to have the new employees experience the importance of social contribution. Earnings from the events have been given to fund social activities including the help poor neighbors program. Voluntary social activities by the company's officers and staff including new employees have been conducted continuously.
Samyang was founded in 1924 by Kim Yeonsu, and currently comprises of eight business units; engineering plastics, specialty chemicals, food, pharmaceuticals, feed, industrial fibers, trade, and environmental engineering, with three overseas branches and offices.
