Kumho Receives
Prime Minister Award
Recognized for its Environmental Progress
Kumho Construction became the first construction firm to win the Grand Prize for Environmentally-Friendly Management Prime Minister's Award at a ceremony held at COEX on June 10 in Seoul, the company said recently.
The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy hosted the event in a bid to expand environmental management across the country by awarding individuals and corporations recognizing contribution to environment-friendly management.
Kumho won the award in recognition for upgrading the nation's environmental competitiveness by setting a good example for the construction industry through its steadfast environmental campaign with no accidents for 7 consecutive years and its systematic and thorough environmental management by using the SFC environment management system.
Kumho's SFC environment system has become a model for environment systems for construction companies. SFC stands for see, feel and change and is made of ISO environment management, activities related to preserving environment, environment management expenses, preventive environment accident management and improvement cases, made up of diverse environment activity programs, which can be checked on a real time basis through photo shots. Kumho has some 90,000 photos obtained through the SFC system.
Kumho, in addition to the introduction of the SFC system, undertook environmental campaign programs more than once a month and its social service team plans to hold 320 social service campaigns with participants totaling over 3,000.
Kumho Construction President Shin Hoon said the company has been after building a sound regional society founded on its vision for respect for life with environmental areas taking precedence over other areas when undertaking a construction project. The company will continue to work in cooperation with other firms, local governments and NGOs, pledging to stand at the forefront of efforts to expand environmental friendly management nationwide.
President Shin said Kumho developed into a general engineering and construction contractor, focusing on infrastructure and the environmental industry. He said they have also expanded into housing construction, including apartment complexes. Their goal has always been to employ the highest professionalism to pursue the nation? economic development while, at the same time, achieving top-level customer satisfaction through high quality products and services.
The construction industry is like a philosophy and history of a society, and it always leads the way for technology like a long journey that defines the living pattern of the people now and in the future. This idea is what led Kumho to develop the high standard of construction philosophy that harmoniously integrates people, nature, and state-of-the-art technologies in order to fulfill their deep sense of duty toward creating a national and global history.
Based on such a philosophy, Kumho has built a total engineering and construction system that enables them to combine the experiences and technologies that are necessary for implementing a unified process of construction. This process includes planning, investigation, design, construction, sales and post-construction services, all integrated so as to successfully produce the consistent results their customers expect.
In the wake of such efforts, Kumho received a grand prize in the field of construction industry at the 2003 Safety Management Contest, a prize recognizing their contributions to ethics, safety and environment. Kumho also won a prize for their environmentally friendly lelullim brand in the 2003 Korea Apartment Construction Contest, proving their highest standard of business philosophy really does emphasize the balanced integration of people, nature, and up-to-the-minute technology.
As a result of the economic crisis facing the nation in 1997, the Kumho team spared no effort to become a more stable and enhanced organization, and as a result, it successfully completed organizational restructuring in 2003. This paved way for them to become an industrial leader in generating profits and increased business value. nw
