Mexico Slated for Sept. 7-11 in Mexico

Participants will also attend the 4th World Korean Business Convention

The 10th Overseas Korean Economic Network Convention (Korean Economic Network Mexico) will be held at Hotel Camino Real Mexico in Mexico City from Sept. 7 to Sept. 11 with about 300 people, including the members of World-OKTA branches, participating.
About 300 overseas Korean businessmen and economists from 56 branches of the World Federation of Overseas Korean Traders Associations (World-OKTA) in 33 countries will get together to discuss how to build up a global network of Korean businessmen. Under the theme "Expansion of Global Markets through Korean Economic Network," the 10th Korean Economic Network Mexico, the 10th overseas convention, will be organized by KOTRA and World-OKTA.
Seo Jin-hyoung, World-OKTA president, said "World-OKTA will mark the 25th anniversary next year since its inception in 1981 thanks to the Korean government's trade promotion policy." "Different from countries with an abundance of natural resources, Korea is determined to succeed in a foreign-trade-dependent economy by processing imported raw materials and exporting them. For this reason, our first-generation members of World-OKTa will continue to serve as an instrument to help Koran products enter foreign markets and will put stepping stones for next-generation people to become great leaders,"he said.
An opening ceremony will be held, the World-OKTA International Commerce Trade Institute in New York will hold a lecture and the participants will observe a Korean product fair in Mexico on Sept. 7 on the first day of the upcoming convention.
The second-day session will include a prize-awarding ceremony for exemplary overseas Korean businessmen, a World-OKTA boarding meeting and an explanation seminar on investments into Mexico.
The participants will make a business observation tour to Mexico on the third and fourth day before heading for Korea on Sept. 11 where they will also participate in the 4th World Korea Business Convention, to be held at KINTEX, north of Seoul, on Sept. 13-15.

22 before touring an exhibition. About 300 overseas Korean businessmen participated in the 9th Overseas Koran Economic Network Convention held in Jeju from Oct. 29 to Oct. 30. They also attended the 3rd World Korean Business Convention, held at the International Convention Center, Jeju, from last Oct. 26 and last Oct. 28.
World-OKTA was established on Apr. 2, 1981 as a trade organization of overseas Korean traders centering around the United States and Japan with the goal of promoting the trade of homeland and enhance the profile of Korea around the world. OKTA was registered as an economic and trade organization of overseas Koreans under the umbrella of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy on Jan. 13, 1994.
Under the slogan "Korean People in the World with Unified Economic Sphere/ from Mt. Baektu to Mt. Halla," the World-OKTA holds the Overseas Korean Economic Network Convention every year with the goal of expanding exchanges of overseas Korean traders and businessmen working around the world, obtaining trade orders and holding consultations among the participants, contributing to the economic development through investments in Korea and their residing countries and promoting the rights of overseas Korean traders and forming consensus among them.
World-OKTA will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its founding next year. The 25th Anniversary Commemoration Project Committee is in place to collect the traces of its past and propose future blueprint for OKTA.
As a core 2006 project, the organization plans to implement an internship program for Korean youths so that they can experience global economic activities of overseas Korean enterprises and familiarize themselves with the real economy there.
World-OKTA is building up a on-line information network on the database of the World-OKTA members active throughout the world.
