Relocated to Bundang
Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) (President Kim Chun-ho) has moved to its own, newly built office structure in Bundang, a satellite city south of Seoul to usher in the so-called second take-off.
The new five-story structure with two basement floors, covering 6,680 pyeong in floor space, was dedicated at a cost of 51.7 billion won. The structure houses research, digital convergence and administration sectors. KETI was established in August 1991 to reinforce a competitive edge in the electronics, communications and other related components industries by fostering the R&D necessary for technological innovation and support of small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Currently, the research institute has 460 researchers, and it has strived for developing core electronic technologies with an annual investment of 70 billion won in R&D outlay.
On the occasion of its moving to Bundang, KETI is expected to take a second take-off as a R&D institution specializing in providing support to SMEs ranging from technology transfers,
availability of high-priced equipment to overseas IR activities.
Minister of Commerce, Industry and Energy Lee Hee-beom delivered a speech in which he praised KETI's contribution to the development of the electronics industry, during a ceremony for celebrating KETI? relocation to Bundang held on April 28. He presented five people with a letter of commendation in recognition of their meritorious contributions. Among the 200 participants were Reps. Kim Tae-nyun, Ko Heung-gil, Im Tae-hee and Woo Won-shik, Seongnam Mayor Lee Dae-yub, KETI Chairman Yoon Jong-yong, KETI President Kim Chun-ho and CEOs and officials from the electronics industry.
Following the ceremony, KETI displayed in its publicity hall such latest R&D outcomes as biometrics nano image censor, European digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) receiver which Korea has succeeded in localizing with its own technology, and the technology related to broadcasting solution tailored to individuals, selected as an international standard. nw
