Dongbu Construction, used to be Miryung Construction, that had been a leading firm to crack the construction market in the Middle East in the middle of the 1970s and has continued to maintain its leading role in the industry amid a fierce competition with foreign builders.
The competitive power of the construction firm is witnessed in its bridge construction, which has been a growth engine for the company.
The Cheongdam Grand Bridge completed in 2001 was the first double-deck bridge built in the country. The lower deck was built for subway trains while the upper deck was for cars leading to the interchange for the Riverside City Expressway.The company envisioned undertaking environmental projects, especially in the construction of trash incinerators by importing advanced technologies from abroad.
The company built trash incinerators in Anyang, Pyeongchon, Seongnam, Gwangmyeong, and Ansan, all in Gyeonggi Province. The company went further and focused on improving the technology and has been engaged in test-running those incinerators for the owners of those facilities under contracts.
The company plans to undertake overseas ventures with the technology as it has won the recognition for excellence in the country. Dongbu also won the recognition for its technology for building district heating facilities in such locations as Ilsan, Suseo and Sangam, which have boosted its growth as a leading firm in the area of environmental plant projects. nw
