Doosan, with focus on stable growth, has been one of exemplary companies in Korea over the past 20 years with its profit management despite recent slowdown in the construction market. From this year, the company has decided to concentrate on sharpening competitive edges in the engineering sector as part of efforts to increase profits to a stable level.
Toward that end, the company is seeking to get more orders for turn-key SOC facilities and engineering projects while expanding its order areas to across the nation. In sum, its hitherto portfolio centering on housings will be reorganized.
With the goal of effectively addressing the rapidly changing living conditions with the introduction of the five-day workweek, the company is also poised to positively advance into leisure and complex tourism complexes, dome-type stadiums and private-funded businesses.
The company plans to strengthen capabilities to collect and manufacture information while raising its own core businesses. In road construction, Doosan has already become the nation? No. 1 company since it constructed Seohae, Namhae, Yeongdong and Jungang Expressways. It is now taking part in 19 cases of SOC projects worth 2.2 trillion won and expects its ordinary profit rate will continue to improve to 7 percent by the year 2006.
Efforts will also be made to enhance competitiveness on raw material prices and secure necessary technologies. In order to reduce the material prices, Doosan has established a system for the assessment of cooperative companies and will improve the order issuance system.
In housing projects, the company is seeking to develop new products that will meet the need of consumers and raise its brand awareness.
Focusing on construction area, Doosan has been carrying out the restructuring of manufacturing lines. In February and June, respectively, the company sold off its petrochemical and aluminum sectors. In June, the company received an order for the construction of the nation's largest residential and commercial buildings. nw
