Lotte Engineering & Construction, which has been stepping up its efforts to become a world-class builder in the age of globalism and information, has turned to making investments in social overhead capital and road environment facilities.
The company turned its main efforts to civil engineering after winning a road construction project in Saudi Arabia in 1975 after its establishment in 1959. The company built a tidal wave dyke in Sapgyo River in the following year.
The company excelled in civil engineering projects by taking on such projects as the Jungbu Highway connecting Weonju and Chuncheon, the Gwangan Grand Bridge, and Mishiryeong Tunnel, gaining a wide respect for its expertise in the construction sector. The company has been raising its targets for winning highway, railroad, bridge and tunnel projects every year, in recognition for its strong position in the field.
Lotte won the Nakata World Cup Stadium in 1997 in Japan for the first time as a foreign builder and it became the first Korean builder to win the order for the Matsuyama Office Building Renovation Project in Sikoku, Japan, from the Ministry of National Land Transportation in July, 2002, and completed the project in August last year.
The company has completed successfully the Lotte World Tokyo project by using the special concrete blocks it developed. The company won the encouragement award from the Kanakawa prefecture administration in recognition for its construction technology. The company currently is undertaking seven projects in Japan including Shibata Hospital in Niikata prefecture. Its globalization effort has been advanced lately with the request for the development of a large complex in such countries as Indonesia, Taiwan and Russia.
The company opted to purchase materials for electronic systems to boost transparency and cost reduction at the forefront of an effort to make the construction industry transparent. The company expects to save 380 million won per year in expenses through electronic purchase of its construction material conducting biddings, drawing up contracts and making purchases through the system. nw
