No. 1 in Domestic Construction Capability Assessment in 2004, and No.1 for 7 years in a row in the National Customer Satisfaction Index in Apartment category.
Founded in 1977 and notwithstanding its relatively short history, Samsung Engineering and Construction had constructed Petrosnas Tower which was the highest building in the world at that time, the world's first self-sustained bridge Yeongjong Grand Bridge and Uljin and Wolsung nuclear power plants.
And recently, it has landed contracts for "Burj Dubai"that would be the highest building in the world upon completion in 2008, and Taiwan Formosa Refinery extension. Also in the past, Samsung was one of the constructors that joined the project for "Taipei Financial Center Taipei 101"which is the highest building in the world as of 2005. By building all of the three world biggest skyscrapers, Samsung has proved itself as the front runner among multi-story building makers.
Including the recent order, Samsung has taken part in the world's three best high-risers. Indeed it has been rewriting the history of high-rise buildings.
Samsung has built 7 skyscrapers that have more than 50 stories and higher than 200 m. Now it holds sixth rank in this area. And as for the housing business, it had launched Korea? first brand apartment "Raemian."It was a big hit and thanks to that success, it was ranked the first in the construction capability evaluation by Construction Association of Korea. It has been 40 years since it topped the evaluation last time. But, Samsung is not paying much attention to the rank itself. Its main concern in taking order is profit. Recently, it has upwardly adjusted its goal to 5 trillion won for sales and 6 trillion won for order taking.
For Samsung, 2005 will be a turning point for its second take-off to be a leading domestic constructor that has stable profit structure, global technology and substantial management system. For this goal, it is fortifying its basic technologies and positively poster professional human resources. And, Samsung also has an ambition to become a world-famous construction company with its accumulated technologies and know-how. nw
