Road Cooperation
The recent Korea-Japan Road Conference, held at the KINTEX has focused on ways to promote bilateral cooperation and information exchanges with the common goal of ensuring continued development of road-related technologies. The conference was be held until July 11.
The annual conference began in 1995 under an implementation agreement with the two sides taking turns every other year. Currently, 10 Korean officials and seven Japanese officials from construction and transportation agencies took part in the conference.
The two sides came up with common agendas for the conference with focus on intelligent traffic system (ITS) in their nations. Korean side concentrated on conflicting cases in road projects, policy direction, relations between easing of road access and traffic volume, and estimation of economic value of road traffic noise in cities. Japanese side dealt with issues pertinent to privatization of road-related state-run companies, Japan's bridge management system and environment-friendly road management. nw
