Opening of Luxury Hotel
- Park Hyatt Hotel dedicated to ensure personal care of guests
with 185 rooms

The Hyundai Development Co. launched its hotel business by opening Park Hyatt Seoul in Daechi-dong, southern Seoul April 15. Chung Mong-gyu, chairman of the construction firm, attended a pre-opening media conference himself showing the importance that the company attaches to the hotel business.
He said the conference that the company arrived at the conclusion that the best option for using the land the company holds was to build a hotel and operate it.
He went on to say that about 1.5 trillion won worth of land belonging to the company will be used to local characteristics of their locations regardless of business sectors.
Chairman Chung said the possibility for success for the new luxury hotel is very high because it will be offering new kinds of services that have not seen before at super deluxe hotels in Seoul as the new hotel is located on a top location in Seoul with top brand name in hotel management, Hyatt.
Park Hyatt Seoul has four underground levels and 24 floors above ground with 185 rooms including 38 special suits.
Chung said the number of rooms comes to only half that of other deluxe hotels because the new hotel will not accept groups so that it would be able to devote full time to individual guests ensuring privacy of those guests.
"We will make Park Hyatt Seoul a top class hotel in Seoul," Chung claimed.
The brand new hotel in Seoul has its front office on the top floor and each of its 24 floors has only 10 rooms or suits with each room in 13-pyeong in size, the biggest among rooms in its rival hotels to ensure that hotel guests receive very attentive personal services.
Chung explained that competitiveness of hotels depends on diversity of space and culture offered and he hopes that the hotel's guests will not have choice in selection of rooms or suits based on their tastes.
Chung said he often visited the hotel when it was being built to check on its designs, especially, the designs of hotel rooms.
He said in Korea, spending money to stay at hotels is being frowned, but not in advanced countries. They, in fact, like to spend money to stay at expensive hotels as part of their culture.
He expected the hotel would cater to foreign guests at the beginning, but later to many domestic guests as they become used to spending time at expensive hotels. nw
