- Daewoo E&C boasts top expertise in nuclear power plant construction

Daewoo Engineering and Construction Co. for the past three decades since its establishment in 1973 has been leading the construction industry in Korea and it has operations in over 30 foreign countries.
The company has been preparing for a new leap in the 21st century as a leading builder in the country with sound financial structure and top profit through high external growth in the industry by upgrading its competitiveness in a drastic manner to cope with changes in business conditions both at home and abroad.
Daewoo E&C with a great pride in its technology and quality of its work has been engaged in all phases of construction ranging from civil engineering, construction, power plants, and oil and gas facilities both at home and abroad. The company has operations in Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Eastern Europe winning wide recognition for its innovative technology and advanced business management system.
In the power generation sector, the company built the Ulsan thermal power plant(400 MWx3) for the first time on turn-key project basis, winning recognition for its technology and with the project as a base, the company clinched a series of power plant projects overseas starting with Iran's Zargan Power Plant(145MWx1), Seo-Incheon combined cycle(1,800MW). In 1992, the company advanced into the nuclear power plant construction in 1992 with Wolsong Nuclear Power Plant Unit 3&4(pressurized heavy water reactor, CANDU Type two 700MW Units). The company is now engaged in the construction of New Wolsong Nuclear Power Plant(1,000MWx2).
In 2004, the company won an order to build a tidal power plant with the capacity of 252,000 KW capable of generating 552.5 million kwh per year, the largest such power plant in the world, winning recognition for its high-tech power plant construction ability.

Technology development and management expertise
Recognizing technology development as an essential factor of its survival, Daewoo E&C plant division has established a foundation for developing technologies through collaboration programs among academia and business and industry sectors since 1992. These efforts have paid off: the development of such technologies as the G-7 Daewoo-type incinerator.
In the years to come, Daewoo E&C will put more energy into entering the futuristic, value-added industries by capitalizing on the expertise and experiences the company has accumulated through the development of advanced technologies. Cashing in on its expertise and continuous investment into technology development, Daewoo E&C is focusing on such businesses as the manufacturing of hydrogen, a futuristic energy source, and fuel cells as well as T/S incinerator, facilities for incinerating sludge, and IGCC plants.
Daewoo E&C, which set up the project management system for its plant business division early in 1990, has now the capacity to undertake the plant projects systematically in all management areas ranging from time, risk, procurement, cost and communication. In particular, the company, which set up the Web-based model management system recently, has succeeded in developing the 4D CAD System, a next-generation project management system, which allows the management of sites on real-time and share information on project process and others. Daewoo E&C has established itself as a leader in terms of both project construction and management capabilities.
