Since its foundation in 1947, Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co., LTD. (HDEC) has led the way in the construction of Korea's infrastructure, as well as, the plants and facilities for the country's fundamental industries. In 1965, HDEC became the first Korean construction company to successfully establish itself in the oversea construction markets, thereby paving the way for increased respect, as well as, enhancing the status of Korean construction industry worldwide. HDEC's technological competence and overall construction prowess has helped HDEC become synonymous with excellence in the global construction sector.

Main Activities & Business
Based on almost three decades of experience of construction nuclear power plants, HDEC has grown into one of the most reliable nuclear construction firms in the world. With extensive expertise and proven project management system attributed from the past experience and continuous investment, HDEC is especially well-qualified to construct safe and reliable nuclear power plants in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Starting from Kori NPP Unit 1 in the early 1970s, the first nuclear power plant ever built in Korea, HDEC has participated in almost every domestic NPP project from the initial stage. As of December 2004, 19 nuclear power plants are currently in operation in Korea, 12 of them have been successfully built by HDEC. In addition, four more units, KEDO and Shinkori NPP Units 1&2, are presently under construction with HDEC as the lead role. One of the noteworthy strengths of HDEC is that it is the only company in Korea with construction experience in both PHWRs (Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors) and PWRs (Pressurized Water Reactors). By actively participating in Korea's NPP projects, HDEC's scope of nuclear specialties and experiences now include not only the construction of nuclear power plants but also nuclear plants repairs and spent fuel storage facilities.
Lately, by participating in the construction of two nuclear power plants in North Korea directed by KEDO (Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization), HDEC's outstanding performance in the NPP construction field has been recognized worldwide. HDEC is participating in this international project as the leading contractor among the construction consortium, representing three other members.
As you may see, from Kori project to KEDO and Shinkori project, HDEC has participated in nuclear business without stopping. It is no exaggeration to say that Korea's 30 years nuclear history is HDEC's nuclear history. HDEC will keep trying to improve the quality of life for people with nuclear technology. nw
