Training Top Corporate Heads
- KCCI calls for training programs for CEOs to extend corporate life
The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in its report on corporate life, said most corporations stayed in business for long time have trained their top managers through their in-house training programs, and called for the need for such programs to prolong corporate life span.
The report pointed out "Session-C" an executive training program maintained by GE provided training to Jack Welch, former GE chairman and CEO and current chairman Jeffrey Immelt who went through tough competition and survived. The report said other U.S. global firms such as Motorola, HP, and 3M all operate in-house training programs for their top managers. Motorola has OMDR(Organization Management and Development Review) Phillips operates MD(Management Development) HP Leadership Development Program, 3M Succession Plan and UPS TLAS(Talk, Listen, Act) for smooth succession and renewal of competitive power.
Domestic firms, too, have similar top manager training programs. SK operates EMD(Executive Management Development System) and Thunderbird,a kind of MBA program, LG has OGE-MBAO(Global Executive MBA), and Kumho-Asiana has a university-linked MBA procedure program. But domestic firms are still lagging behind firms in advanced countries in terms of top manager succession training programs.
Top managers that came up through diversified training programs and tests enhance the competitiveness of their firms and thus extend the life of their firms. nw
