- 179 automakers and automotive firms expected to participate in the exhibition

Seoul Motor Show 2005 will get under way for an 11-day run through May 8 with a breathtaking display of diverse new and concept cars by domestic and foreign automakers.
The Organizing Committee of Seoul Motor Show 2005 said 179 automotive companies from 10 countries, including 49 foreign firms, are expected to participate in the motor show, being held under the theme "Endless Surprise in Our Motor Life". The exhibitors will display passenger cars, commercial vehicles, two-wheel drive cars, automotive parts and other products. An estimated 1 million spectators are expected to show up during the exhibition.
The press day of the motor show will coincide with the grand opening of the new Korea International Exhibition Center (KINTEX) in Ilsan, a satellite city north of Seoul, on Apr. 28.
Hyundai Motor Co., Korea's largest automaker, plans to unveil a new version of the popular Grandeur XG, code-named TG during Seoul Motor Show. Kia Motors Corp will likely showcase the VQ, the successive new model of its Carnival while GM Daewoo Auto & Technology Company's "Statesman" will make its debut.
Also unveiling new models for the first time in Korea will be Infiniti's M35 and FX45; Chevrolet's sports car, Corvette; Volkswagen's New Passat; Volvo's 8-cylinter SUV, XC90 V8; Land Rover's Range Rover Sports; Peugeot's seven-seat multi-purpose vehicle 807HDi; Daimler Chrysler's Pacifica; and Ford's New Mustang Convertible, Five Hundred. As the sale of diesel-fueled passenger cars is now allowed on the domestic market, domestic automakers will unveil their diesel fueled models during the motor show, staging a fierce competition with foreign counterparts, which are expected to strengthen the publicity activities of their models.
Peugeot will display its diverse diesel-fueled versions, including sedan 407HDi and crossover car 407SW in its diesel car section while Volkswagen will unveil the new Passat 2.0 TDI for the first time in Asia, Touareg V6 3.0 TDI and Golf 2.0 TDI as well as SUV jeep Cherokee diesel and Grand Voyager.
On display will be also the latest concept cars and high-tech ones, including fuel cell and hybrid cars next-generation environmental-friendly vehicles. Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors each will show off three concept cars. GM Daewoo Auto & Technology Company and Ssangyong Motor will unveil two and five concept cars, respectively.
Honda's hybrid concept car IMAS and premium sedan concept car KIWMI as well as Accord V6 hybrid and fuel cell car FCX will be introduced. Rexus hybrid car LF-S with V8 gasoline engine and 4WD high-power motor and luxury hybrid RX400h will be unveiled.
Sports car models, including Lamborghini brands, Mercedes-Benz super sports car SLR McLaren and Honda's S2000 will be highlighted during the Seoul Motor Show.
In the meantime, 141 automotive parts makers will participate in the motor show. Spectators will get a glimpse of environmental-friendly Rack & Pinion Electric Power Steering and simulator with pre-safe functions Mando will unveil.
Seoul Motor Show 2005 is the only motor show in Korea, being held every two years that is credited by the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA), and the fifth one since it was inaugurated in 1995. The stature of Seoul Motor Show has been upgraded with participation of both foreign and domestic automakers since 1997.
KINTEX is the largest domestic exhibition center in Korea, equipped with high-tech devices and advanced exhibition facilities on a combined exhibition space of 52,800 sq. meters. nw
