Association Awards
- SGH-D500 awarded for best handset and 3GSM handset categories
Samsung Electronics won the GSM Association's award for Best Mobile Handset with its SGH-D500. The award, announced at a ceremony at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes on Jan. 15, recognizes excellence in handset design and innovation.
Samsung was shortlisted SGH-D500 for Best Handset and SGH-Z107 for Best 3GSM Handset categories, respectively.
The Best Handset award was finally announced at GSM Award dinner, Les Ambassadeurs, Palais des Festivals, Cannes on Feb. 15, out of 61 nominees among 480 initial entries. This year's award is more meaningful celebrating the 10th Anniversary Awards Ceremony from 1996.
The SGH-D500 delivers the latest multimedia and imaging technology in a compact and elegant soft-touch slide-up style. A powerful business device as well as a multimedia companion, the SGH-D500 incorporates all of Samsung's leading technology into one package: a 1.3 Megapixel camera with flash; video recording with 60 minutes of storage; Bluetooth, email, and syncML connectivity; a speakerphone with enhanced voice clarity; and MP3 music player; 262K TFT screen; 64 polyphonic ring tones; and 96MB of internal user memory.
Accepting the award, Kim Woon-sub, executive vice president of Samsung Telecommunications Network, said. "We are delighted to receive this award for Best Handset for the SGH-D500 phone. Samsung at 3GSM World Congress
Samsung was delighted to be part of the biggest event in the mobile calendar and have the opportunity to introduce a range of new mobile devices featuring the latest in wireless 3G technology.
Samsung's participation in the year's how was its biggest yet. Exclusive to the show, Samsung unveiled its latest rage of 3G handsets: the SGH-Z500, Z130 and Z300. Along with its 3G handsets, the company also exhibited several products that demonstrate multimedia leadership including Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB phones).
These new and sophisticated devices further show Samsung's commitment to providing the ultimate 3G experience, with small, sleek handsets featuring rich media functionalities. Samsung believes that both the design and multimedia functions are keys to the success of any 3G handset.
This year, Samsung is displaying around 30 handsets, of which 10 new models are unveiled for the first time at the show. Further details of these handsets can be found in the Samsung press pack. Samsung's senior executives are also on hand to provide high level strategic insights into the anticipated trends for 2005 in the mobile industry.
