Poongsan Corp. is extremely happy to win the Production Reform Award at the 30th National Quality Management Convention, which the company thinks is due to a companywide effort to be close to customers focusing on management reform.
Poongsan as a producer of new copper products and basic raw material, it is critical for it to secure competitive production equipment and thus require all kinds of managerial know-how. The company plans to integrate the TPM activities, 6 sigma activities with IE activities, which brought the award for the company.
Under the rapidly changing business environment, in order to make company competitive, every one at worksites worked on improving production equipment capabilities by analyzing, among others, losses occurring in the production procedures scientifically. By fully utilizing all kinds of reform programs available, including IE activities, the company has been able to have participants to have scientific frame of minds to continue to have good results and maintaining an effective management system.
The Onsan plant has earmarked this year as the initial year for its reform activities, ranging from production reform, 30 percent productivity increase in consulting installations, the elimination of loss in the production procedures, the establishment of standard time, and the contraction of C/T. all targeted at making production reform, value reform, quality reform and awareness reform.
Such a production reform activity as a base, the Onsan plant earmarked 230,000 tons as its annual production target to have the plant grow as the world's biggest plant. Every one at the plant is a participant to the TPM activities, help eliminating losses in its cost structure with high effectiveness. As a result of taking on production reform activities, company kept growing after its establishment to the extent that its annual production capacity has been increased to 230,000 tons with its annual sales projected to grow 37.9 percent to 855.8 billion won this year from 620.6 billion won last year. Production per employee will rise to 186.8 tons last year to 199.5 tons this year, up 6.8 percent. The operational profit is projected to rise 84 percent. The company won the Excellent Enterprise Award in the Korea-Japan TPM production reform competition this year, edging close to the company's vision to become a top new copper production firm in the world in diversified areas including the reduction in the number of damage cases, and the creation of labor-management culture.
To help the new copper industry to reach the top level, reform activities pursued up until now will be supplanted to make them belong to management and boost the effective rate of production by building a value-added production system.
