5th Seoul Town Meeting for Foreigners
- Event to make Seoul a foreigner-friendly city Dec.3, 2004
Seoul Metropolitan govern-ment said Nov.12 that it will hold the 5th Seoul Town Hall Meeting on from 2pm to 4.30 pm Dec. 3, 2004 at Taepyeong Hall in the City Hall. Its release said all foreign residents in Seoul are welcome to the meeting. Co-hosted by the Seoul Metro-politan Government(SMG) and the Foreign Investment Advisory Council(FIAC) for the Mayor, the 5th annual Seoul Town Hall Meeting is a good opportunity for expatriates to make suggestions on the quality of life issues in Seoul, the SMG said.
This year's meeting will focus on two issues: the new traffic system of Seoul, which was launched in July this year and the medical services for foreign residents. The garbage disposal system and the introduction to Seoul Help Center for Foreigners will also be covered as sub-topics. During the meeting, the relevant senior officials of the SMG will touch upon each issue.
Since 2000, the Seoul Town Meetings have provided an excellent opportunity for expatriates to present their ideas on living in Seoul and to share experiences of the city. The suggestions brought up at the past annual meetings from 2000 through 2003 have been reflected in the creation of municipal policies and initiatives to support foreigners. The issues of last meeting in 2003 were the plan to enhance the English proficiency of Seoulites and the five-year plan to improve expatriates' living environment. The upcoming meeting, the SMG will describe how the ideas the foreign participants came up with on those issues have been followed up. Participants will not only listen to the relevant officials from the city government and central government, answering their questions, but also be able to talk to the Mayor of Seoul.
Those who wish to attend are encouraged to sign up by Nov. 26, 2004 on the registration site located at the Seoul Help Center for Foreigners home page, http://shc.seoul.go.kr or contact the Center at 02-731-6800. nw
